Article cover: How ESG, Dow Jones, and Cybersecurity relate to privacy.

The acronym ESG has become one of the most used words today. It refers directly to social responsibility in various aspects and, therefore, is also directly related to privacy and data protection. It is worthwhile to learn more about the subject to understand how companies should position themselves on this issue.

Furthermore, it is important to emphasize that privacy is also related to several other topics. Among them, we can mention cybersecurity and the Dow Jones index.

What is ESG and how does it relate to privacy?

First, it's important to know that the acronym comes from the combination of the English words Environmental, Social, and Governance. These are three sensitive themes for understanding and participating in the corporate world and acting according to the most current principles. It's worth noting that privacy is directly related to the social aspect of ESG.

The word "Environmental" refers to caring for the environment, sustainability, reuse, emissions of polluting gases such as carbon, water and air purification, and waste management, among other things.

When we think about "Social," we can mention themes such as social and community issues, inequality, respect, citizenship, ethics, morality, and even privacy and data protection. After all, all companies must commit to the standards established by the General Data Protection Law (LGPD), which has worked so hard to guarantee more privacy for users.

Finally, the term "Governance" refers to the public policies, laws, processes, and administrative guidelines for each company. The issue is also directly related to current privacy guidelines that must be maintained and implemented in the corporate environment.

Other topics related to privacy

When we think about the Dow Jones index, we are talking about global indicators of financial performance. The questionnaire used to evaluate the results takes into account, for example, issues involving Information Security, which is directly linked to privacy and its current policies.

One of the main ESG questionnaires is also part of the process for evaluating the performance of the financial world. The Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) specifically assesses sustainability, privacy, and the other requirements described above.

Cybersecurity

Finally, it's important to understand that cybersecurity is another topic included in the Dow Jones assessment. This aspect accounts for 3% of the final score for the financial sector. Experts believe that this percentage could be even higher for theft.

Therefore, in pursuit of high-level positions in the corporate world, companies need to address sensitive issues related to privacy, the LGPD (Brazilian General Data Protection Law), and the topics discussed above. After all, as is evident, they are all interconnected symbiotically.
