What a great meeting!

On August 1st, the headquarters of the National School of Public Administration (ENAP) in Brasília became a hub for Data Protection Officers, privacy specialists, cybersecurity consultants, and anyone interested in the topic. The announcement of the 1st Meeting of Data Protection Officers of the National Data Protection Authority, two months prior, generated a movement across the country, sparking genuine curiosity and interest from these professionals.

With the venue packed and in-person registrations sold out in minutes, the only option left for those who remained was to participate. OnlineAnd the event delivered, exceeding expectations.

The opening was conducted by the Director-President of ANPD, Waldemar Gonçalves, together with the Executive Director of ENAP, Natália Teles, and Lilian Cintra de Melo, Secretary of Digital Rights of the Ministry of Justice. The event featured four thematic panels, led by professionals from the public, private, and third sectors.

The program brought together ANPD (National Data Protection Authority) staff to discuss the "Launch of the Data Protection Officer Regulation: Regulation, Challenges and Opportunities" and its development, which involved approximately 1400 contributions from the data protection community.

Panel 2 was moderated by the Secretary-General of the ANPD and was richly contributed to by Data Protection Officers from various organizations, such as Nubank, Sebrae, the Ministry of Finance, and the ANPD itself, where they exchanged experiences, challenges, and solutions on the topic "Role and Responsibilities of the Data Protection Officer," demonstrating its importance in maintaining compliance with the LGPD in the processing of personal data.

At table 3, discussing “Security Incidents with Personal Data,” were the General Manager of CERT.br/NIC.br, the Head of the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services, and the Head of the National Telecommunications Agency – ANATEL. The participants highlighted the need for Data Protection Officers in companies to be involved in policy development, promotion within their departments, and the recording of incidents where personal data is compromised.

Finally, panel 4 addressed the topic of "Artificial Intelligence and Personal Data Protection," featuring a representative from the Iris Institute, a representative from SECOM, and a representative from IDP. The discussion highlighted the importance of the Data Protection Officer understanding their role, and not only their role, but the role of the entire organization.

Despite there being excellent topics to be discussed, the subject that was "on everyone's lips" was the new Supervisor Regulations launched days earlier, on July 16th.

Concluding the panels, the ANPD's governing body ended the event by thanking the massive participation and reinforcing the role of the Data Protection Officer as a fundamental entity for the fulfillment of the fundamental right to privacy of the data subject. And everyone went off to network at... coffee breakexchanging ideas, contacts, and experiences.
