Summary

At its annual developer conference, known as Google I/O, the company announced new privacy and security tools for its products, including its browser, Gmail, Maps, as well as features for Android operating system users. That's what we'll see today.

More transparency in the Android operating system.

Google is investing in updates for Android 14 that allow users to better control and understand the sharing of location and other data through applications installed on their electronic devices. For example, with location data, the owner will receive permission requests When an app shares your information with third parties for advertising purposes.

Therefore, you can use the information to decide whether to approve or reject location sharing for each application, so that you are always in control.

Still on the same topic, Google is adding a "Data deletion" section to the Google Play data security settings for apps, making it easier to request the deletion of your account or other data.

Spam protection in Google Drive

A new view has been introduced that makes it easier to separate and review files; it's based on adding a "Spam" folder. The feature will work by automatically classifying content as containing spam or abusive content.

Additionally, users can take any document originating from Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Sites, and Forms and mark it as Spam in the saver's tab.

Privacy on Google: Monitoring information from the dark web.

Previously exclusive to Google One subscribers in the United States, the company is expanding access to its dark web report. This means that anyone with a Gmail account should be able to run checks and see if their Gmail address appears on a dark web site.

If the email address is stored in a specific location, instructions will be provided on what actions the user should take to protect themselves. This setting is for the United States. It is expected to reach other markets soon.

More information about visual content on the internet.

The existing tools “About this result” and “About this author” will be combined with the option “About this image” to guide users on how reliable the content is. In other words, context is provided, indicating whether it's a generative image, whether it has already been indexed by Google, where it first appeared, and where it has been most viewed online.

Easier to clear history on Google Maps

Currently, it's only possible to delete your Maps search history through Web & App Activity. To simplify things, the tech giant is launching the ability to delete searches directly in Maps with a simple tap.

More privacy with Google Safe Browsing.

The company's Safe Browsing uses Artificial Intelligence to identify and alert browsers about dangerous websites and files, stopping scams before they happen. To counter malicious actors and their strategies, the company is introducing a new Safe Browsing API that accelerates the ability to verify and identify compromising websites, capturing more attacks and blocking 25% more phishing attempts every month on Chrome and Android.
