Why has cybersecurity become a priority for Brazilian companies?

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Summary

A recent study by the International Business Report (IBR), conducted by Grant Thornton, revealed that more than 80% of medium-sized Brazilian companies are investing or plan to invest in protection against cyberattacks in 2024. However, what are the reasons for this prioritization? We explain it here.

Who is more worried?

The research involved approximately 300 Brazilian companies, which demonstrated varying levels of concern:

  • 41% have been investing for years in improvements to protection against and response to cyberattacks.
  • Another 41% started investing in the last three years and plan to continue in the coming years.
  • In 10% of cases, cybersecurity will be treated as a priority starting in 2024.
  • Already, 6% say they will start treating the issue as a priority in the near future.

Brazil: The biggest target of cyberattacks in Latin America

One of the points highlighted by Grant Thornton analysts is that this data appears to be a result of the increase in cyberattacks suffered by national companies each year. A report by the security company Fortinet indicates that Brazil is the most vulnerable country to cyberattacks in Latin America. In the first half of last year, 23 billion attacks against Brazilian organizations were recorded, representing 36% of the total in Latin America.

According to experts, much remains to be done to ensure a safe and risk-free digital environment, with one of the main challenges being the lack of structured plans and training for responding to cyber incidents. They believe the best way to ensure greater protection is to continuously train and test incident response plans to achieve agility and efficiency in action.

It is important that digital protection be treated as a strategic pillar in a market that increasingly depends on the digital world, as this is the only way to guarantee the sustainable growth of companies.
