With over a century of history and one of the most traditional schools in Porto Alegre, the institution sees data protection as a strategic issue and, therefore, has adopted the technology from the Rio Grande do Sul-based company.
Throughout its 138-year history, Colégio Farroupilha has been committed to and dedicated to its community. This mission becomes even more important when it comes to privacy and data protection. Therefore, to manage over 15 data points from its students, the institution relies on Privacy Tools solutions. This initiative gained national recognition in 2023 with the National Educational Management Award (PNGE) in the administrative management category. The case study "LGPD project in education: care for the personal data of the school community" was also awarded the SINEPE/RS Innovation Prize the previous year, granted by the Union of Private Educational Establishments of Rio Grande do Sul.
The Compliance and Projects Supervisor at the Comptroller's Office, Marcelo Souza, explains that the project to adapt to the General Data Protection Law began back in 2019, before the legislation officially came into effect. “We started managing it timidly, using internal tools that ended up not being very productive. When we learned about Privacy Tools' solutions, and understood that our needs would be met, implementing the tools was a natural progression,” he details.
Based on the contracted modules for Cookie Management and Website Monitoring, and Consent Management, the institution was able to advance its processes through the automation that the solutions provide. "When we stopped performing our control manually and started automating everything in the tools, we improved our management of all the data from our community, which includes students, parents, employees, suppliers, and partners," says Souza.
For the manager, another highlight of the implementation is the predictability achieved through website metrics. “The tool allows us to work with various indicators. From them, we can identify opportunities for improvement in serving data subjects, study potential risk issues, and provide all the transparency that these processes require,” confirms Souza. Furthermore, because the institution has a dynamic website, the Cookie Management solution also delivers effective results.
For Privacy Tools CEO Aline Deparis, the project developed at Colégio Farroupilha is special. “Because it is a century-old institution with a long tradition, and because it's in the education sector, the partnership with Farroupilha makes us very proud. Being able to develop our solutions in an organization that deals with young people and all their dangers, as well as their guardians, and that is committed to protecting the information of its community, is also a learning experience for Privacy Tools,” she celebrates.
Colégio Farroupilha is one of the most traditional basic education institutions in Rio Grande do Sul, founded in 1886 by the Associação Beneficente e Educacional de 1858 – ABE 1858 (originally called Deutscher Hilfsverein). Serving students from preschool to high school, the school's mission is to educate and form competent, ethical, and globally minded citizens. Currently, Farroupilha has over 3.000 students at its Três Figueiras campus, in addition to approximately 500 students at its Correia Lima campus.
