The cooperative's pioneering initiative for compliance stands out in Brazil and serves as an example for this important sector throughout the country.
With the LGPD (General Law for the Protection of Personal Data) coming into effect in September 2020, all companies began to prioritize adaptation projects to protect the privacy and data of clients, users, and consumers.
Sicoob Central Crediminas is a second-tier cooperative within the Sicoob System, responsible for coordinating and centralizing the operational and representational processes of its affiliated individual cooperatives. It manages R$ 41 billion in assets and has 723 branches.
The adjustment was being made manually.
Concern for the privacy of cooperative members' and employees' data has always been part of the company's governance activities, systems planning, and processes. However, the adaptation of processes and project management to comply with the LGPD (Brazilian General Data Protection Law) was being done manually, without a support platform to accelerate and provide greater security to the Minas Gerais-based cooperative. This is where Privacy Tools, a 100% Brazilian startup, came in to provide support.
According to Claudio Maulais, an analyst in Data Protection and Privacy Governance responsible for the technical analysis of the platform for data protection management, "Privacy Tools, in addition to being a company based in Brazil, uses innovative technology and has highly qualified professionals on its staff who are very close to the client, making the delivery of modules and customizations flexible to meet our Data Protection and Privacy Governance program."
A customized project
Since 1988, Sicoob Central Crediminas has focused on financial centralization, oversight, and advisory services in the areas of credit, economics, information technology, accounting, communication and marketing, risk control and management, legal advice, and professional training to serve its affiliated cooperatives.
Sicoob Central Crediminas, which together with its 73 affiliated individual cooperatives, a Deposit Guarantee Fund (Sicoob FGD) and an Insurance Administrator and Broker (Sicoob Minaseg) form the Sicoob Sistema Crediminas, has approximately 1.500 users.
Furthermore, according to Maulais: "It should be noted that, being a multi-company and multi-user platform, it made all the difference in choosing the platform, given the challenge of customizing the import of 16 processes, thus generating the processing activities with the entire flow of personal data and automating the integration of 1.500 users to the platform through API integration."
"Because it's such a large structure, it wouldn't be possible to implement data privacy management where each Cooperative/Company could only access its own data processing activities, and where each platform user, considered in our scenario to be the owners of the mapped processes, could only access their own processes," concludes Cláudio Maulais.
Partnership in favor of a culture of privacy.
Since Sicoob Central Crediminas organizes, processes, and distributes strategic information, evaluates business opportunities, and promotes professional development training for its employees, and according to analyst Claudio Maulais: “All of this is only possible with a company that doesn't act as a supplier but rather in mutual partnership, fostering a culture of protection and privacy for our country. This is achieved not only by accessing the platform and having access to rich content on data protection and privacy, already selected and with excellent work done by Privacy Tools, such as in the 'Privacy Above All' series.”
