UNICAP adopts Privacy Tools solutions for LGPD compliance and optimizes its relationship with data subjects.

The implementation project, carried out in partnership with Lumi Consult, brought improvements to the management and protection of data for more than 10 students.

Brazil's General Data Protection Law (LGPD) has just completed three years in effect. During this period, the National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) documented more than 600 security incidents. Compared to other market sectors, the education segment is one of those that manages its clients' personal data for the longest time. Therefore, the Catholic University of Pernambuco (UNICAP), through its partnership with Lumi Consult, adopted Privacy Tools solutions.

Founded in Recife, the educational institution has over 10 students enrolled in 46 undergraduate courses, 10 graduate programs (master's and doctoral degrees), as well as specialization courses, MBAs, and Latin Legun Masters. To manage such a large volume of personal data, Unicap sought the technology of the Rio Grande do Sul-based company.

According to Rodrigo Pellegrino de Azevedo, Data Protection Officer (DPO) at Unicap, the regulatory change required a reorganization of the university in order to comply with the legislation, but it also presented an opportunity to improve its relationship with its stakeholders. “We began to review the design of our internal processes and optimized our relationship with both employees and professors, as well as students. It was an opportunity to establish even more transparent, agile, and efficient relationships with our clientele,” he analyzes.

According to the manager, this design of internal processes was precisely the university's main challenge before contracting the solutions from the company from Rio Grande do Sul. With the implementation of solutions such as Corporate Policy Management, Website Monitoring & Cookie Management, and Data Subject Request Management (DSAR), Azevedo hopes to accelerate the organization's digital transformation.

“Being able to gather personal data in a single environment for managing the relationship with the data subject and integrating this into our processes gives credibility to Unicap. Faced with the challenge of adapting to the LGPD (Brazilian General Data Protection Law), our result is efficient and even more transparent management,” he reflects.

In particular, the DSAR solution, which functions as a service platform specializing in the rights of data subjects, ensures that the essence of data protection in the contemporary world is respected.

According to Aline Deparis, CEO of Privacy Tools, the implementation made a solid contribution to the unification of all UNICAP's data management processes. "Our solutions brought more efficiency and transparency to the University's management. The work we carried out in partnership with Lumi Consult was fundamental in ensuring that all the implementation challenges were met," she celebrates.

In addition to contributing to the redesign of internal processes and, therefore, to the management of the university's relationship with its external audiences, Azevedo also highlights the advantage of having a solution in Portuguese. "This brings Unicap's employees closer to the necessary cultural shift towards data protection," concludes the manager.
