The LGPD (Brazilian General Data Protection Law) consists of 65 articles with guiding principles that govern the implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of information. The regulations help to understand the role of companies in protecting the privacy of citizens. This is because the law contains all the administrative obligations for adapting to the new regulations. 

These measures affect businesses of all sizes, including small entrepreneurs. However, the conditions are clear and can be consulted by everyone through the publications. The main idea to understand what the General Data Protection Law regulates is the definition of consent, a situation in which two people agree. 

What is the purpose of the principle of finality and what is its definition? 

Considering that all exchanges must be consensual and governed by a formalized contract, the company is responsible for clarifying all points involving the data of its clients, employees, and any other agent. Therefore, all requested information needs a justification, that is, a specific purpose. From name to address, the terms of service should include the reason for collecting certain content. 

But if the term "conditional" was already being used before, what has changed now? 

Previously, the considerations a person accepted before registering, making a purchase, or participating in any transaction lacked strong legal protection in cases of data breaches or fraud. Therefore, there was an agreement, but if the data was misused, legal action was limited. 

The principle of purpose, set forth in Article 6, item I, of Law 13.709/2018 – LGPD, states: “purpose: carrying out the processing for legitimate, specific, explicit and informed purposes to the data subject, without the possibility of subsequent processing in a manner incompatible with these purposes”. 

Therefore, there is an effort to make all information exchanges between companies more transparent. Bearing in mind that "purpose" refers to making it clear to the public how their data will be stored and used, guaranteeing its confidentiality.
